Pistonhead Slight return was fun, feelgood racing sunshine and happy people. Great photos, by Jan Molin, new mains in the engine and a straight crank gave repeated 10, 30´s without any serious tuning, I´m happy.

Bracket racing..10.0833
Supposed to run test and tune at "Race On the Base",opted to run in the Street Class, 10.00 class break out and qualifying on any Dial in above that, so I put 10.08 on the helmet, and ran a 10.0833 came out as #1 Qualifier, Solo in the quarter, won the Semi and runner up in final, against a very good driver.
We had a lot of laughs and a gooood time.

Done..
Sometimes you have to settle for almost, but W.T.F. my ambitions for a new exhaust system and seat can wait, I´m ready for this summer, and i rode it hard today..Tomorrow afternoon it´s final prep of the race bike.
Close ratio gears and jockey shift fed by a perky , actually 100 cui is addictive, and the gas tank is holding up...

Get some air..
I had to drag the project outside, trying to figure exhaust lines , and seat. The working Headlight will be springer style, same as the racer, carbonfibre but painted black.
Most everything on this build is the best available except the gas tank , but i will run it until it cracks wide open and then adress the issues., Right now it´s wrong mounts and full of tank seal , so who knows, it may last for aweek or the whole summer.

Nice! 10.097.
Pistonhead Open 2, lot´s of teams and Top Doorslammers as well. Good show if the weather is cooperating, but no..not this time. Showers slowed down the pace and we got very few attempts, but..My first run was 10.097s, 213Km/h...and with 60 feet in 1.6375 I knew I could do better. But I managed to consume my chances on the only run on Saturday by loosing the gear shift pedal shaft, which basically is a 1/4 " precision bolt with a lock nut, which was... not a lock nut apparently..my fault. before i lost the pedal i recorded a 60 foot time of 1.6036 so only if..........:)
The Man, the myth, Tom Leret note the clamp on the pipe, been like that since.....the 1970´s, something...just like his Nitro Sportster been running like a clock, always a good show.

Preparing
I´m trying to find hours to prepare for next weekend three day battle at Kjula Dragway, i need at least 10 Hours rear head work of which 5 is Rocker Shaftt/Arm/Box alignment and shimming. I got a cracked bracket in need of weld and another ignition coil bracket boss needing weld, on top of that i need to completely flush oil and change, and change my rear tire...damn I need to take time of from work.

Cinco de Mayo
All planned machining done, both race and street, so its sweeping the floors and cleaning, and then final assembly of both race and street projects. It´s a nice weekend to finish things. BQ Hamburgers an beer tonight.. Yeaaye!
Piston to Head Clearance in the street motor is set at .034" using a copper gasket .0157" thick. In the "Mother" engine I´m not using any gaskets, cylinder base or head. (The pcture is not at TDC).

Street motor chasing piston weight
Now i got the pistons down to 414 grams, and I will most likely have to reduce the dome to get quench clearance, so I´m close to the target 400 g, . It takes time to get those last grams, but there is no way around it when you are replacing pistons, and its more difficult when the assembly is initially balanced with extremely low reciprocating weight. Getting decent basic compression in a 4 3/4 stroke, 3 5/8 bore and bathtub type chambers is not doable with the typical 30 degree pistons, but rather 43 degrees (dome) is required to get i.e 10, 5.

Street 96", Quench 3 5/8 Pistons
Ross Racing Pistons made the Blanks which I¨m finishing, crown and Valve Pockets on, adjusting weight to target just below 400 grams, they came in at 542, but after Valve Pockets and the angled crown `got milled it´s down to 458 g.
Ross are super responsive and did meet my schedule and I was able to pick up on the east coast a couple of weeks ago, I sent my sketch dimensions from my CAD as pdf, and they work in Pro Engineer. I´m happy to get this motor back together with the right kind of quench pistons. I have been running some makeshift regular pistons. for a few years so it´s about time.

Early Spring
12 - 13 May is the date for Test &Tune at Kjula Dragway, and spring is here, feels like a month earlier than last year. My racing friends doing more extensive changes are feeling stressed... I´m servicing the street bike and in my tiny shop it´s hard to find space. Just waiting for some piston blanks from Ross, but I can put the lower end back in, so I´ll probably do what I can this upcoming weekend. It´s getting a short springer, 21" fr.wheel, new handle bars texas style and maybee a sexier hand shifter, and that´s about it. The really good news is that I have signed with my first serious sponsor for the racing operation. B.N.Skorstensfolket are the ones making sure old chimneys are sealed up and leak free with a unique sealing method, I´m happy they volunteered to the good cause.

Looking for Air..
At the end of my Zone week, been busy doing stuff that requires some focus, hence long nights alone. It´s been a while since a was in the "zone". had a one day visit to CHP (Calas High Performance) basically replacing bushings and straighten rods for the street motor, but also to pick up inspiration. Servicing both the Street 96 " and "Mom". The Gearbox was ok, leakdown ok, finished a sketch drawing for new pistons to the street motor which I mailed of to Ross Racing Pistons. Last season last race I logged low AFR at high speed, so I need to figure that somehow, so being low budget and not able to afford dyno time this year I have to work with what´s on the shelf. The other thing is that Dynos´doesnt simulate speed condition very well... The change we made before the last runs was that we did not port out the exhaust valve seats and I came out with a 10.16 run, which is p.b. but with less top speed. So I had a pair of huge Velocity stacks laying around, and last night I milled out a raceworthy clamp. This is going to be interesting.

Go figure..
Getting ready for a week "In the Zone" I rearranged some and started to list things to do, leak down, the slight resistance turning the rear wheel, install two step rpm limiter, and general check up, etc, etc.
I got the rear wheel of in no time after ruling out the brake, and then the wheel itself, after removing the clutch, and checking the gearbox it appears tho be just perfect just like butter when rolli`n the main, so next will be drain and flush the gbx oil (RedLine), my guess is that this oil cold is just stickyer....
First is undressing "Mom"...

Yepp
I´m in the shop, checking for some rollin resistance in the rear wheel possibly thru the gear box, something is off, but i will find it.
Sorting out overhauled FHP heads and a pair of repaired "Quench" heads for street motors, the silverish colour is "Sermetel" alumium base coat with good corrosion resistance.
